False Claims Act

Originally a Federal Statute dating back to 1863 which allows for suits against individuals or entities that have defrauded or cheated he government. The term “false claims” means that at its core, these statutes require some kind of explicit or implied false statement used to get a benefit from the government. Th Federal False Claims Act allows for the recovery for  Federal monies and state and municipal false claims acts allows for the recovery of state and municipal monies. False Claims Acts generally, but not always, have qui tam provisions.
